We are a non-profit investment firm that works with investors to move capital into communities around the world. People and institutions invest through our Community Investment Note. We pool those dollars to make loans to roughly 100 mission-driven organizations worldwide that have a social and/or environmental focus.
We lend to organizations working in areas like climate change, education, microfinance, affordable housing, and gender equity. Learn more about our portfolio.
More than 18,000 individuals and institutions have invested with us since 1995, in amounts ranging from $20 to $20 million. See your options for investing in the Community Investment Note.
During 25 years of operation, we have moved over $2 billion in investor dollars into communities. Investor dollars translate into real impact on the ground. Read more in our annual Impact Report.
Our story
The founders of Calvert Investments (Now Calvert Research and Management), founded us as Calvert Social Investment Foundation in 1988 to offer investors more direct ways to invest in communities. We are a separate entity organized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and officially launched our portfolio and Community Investment Note in 1995. In November 2017 we renamed to Calvert Impact Capital to better reflect the work we do.
Working with individual investors has always been part of our mission. We were one of the first “impact investments” available through brokerage accounts, and anyone living in the U.S. with $20 and a bank account can invest directly with us. In the same spirit, we aim to make impact investing accessible and relevant to a diverse range of investors through education and partnerships.
